We are in the thick of winter right now, but already my thoughts are moving toward the spring! With the nicer, warmer weather of the spring comes “spring cleaning.” Spring cleaning is most certainly not my favorite part of the welcomed change in seasons! However, I do believe that it is a necessary evil – and a time of year to get it together! With three kids and a husband, our home is very much in need of spring cleaning! In fact, we should have this in-depth cleaning with every season…not just spring, but summer cleaning, fall cleaning, and winter cleaning!
One of the top priorities will be to focus on the kids’ bedrooms. I am going to buy each of them toy boxes. This way, they’ll have something in their bedrooms where they can through their toys and other items – out of site! I really look forward to the day when I can walk into the kids’ rooms and not feel claustrophobic from all their junk!

I was so sick of playing chess. It seemed that was the only game that my brother wanted to play. When I asked if we could play something else, he would get huffy and throw a tantrum, just like a two year old child. If you want to know my honest opinion, it is really getting annoying.
One day, I’m going to get even with him. I’m going to take the chess set, break up the chess pieces, and scatter the contents about the house. When he gets home from work, he will see what I have done.
Now, you probably think that I am acting immaturely. And you probably feel like I am being a hypocrite. Well, I do not really care. I just want to send the message to him that chess is really annoying and that there are other varieties of games that can be played. Maybe, he will get the point after I do something drastic.

Celebrating Allen’s survival

I am having a welcome home party for Allen. Allen has been gone for a very long time. He is in the U.S. Army and has been stationed in Germany. From Germany, he was then deployed to Iraq – where he has spent a full year. Allen just returned home to, after being away for far too long. He was injured in the war, receiving multiple gun shot wounds. We all feel so blessed that he is still with us today. And we are overjoyed that he is finally home with his family.
Today we are celebrating Allen’s home coming. All of us are here….his family, friends, and neighbors. We have the wine refrigerator stocked full of a variey of very nice wines, and we have tons of food to serve our guests! We are going to be sure that this occasion is extra special for Allen because his surviving his wounds is special to us. He is our hero!

Allen’s Big Boy Bed

I have just bought Allen his “big boy” toddler bed. Allen turned two years old today, and he says that he is a big boy now. HIs toddler bed is one of the presents to celebrate his passage into big boyhood. The bed that we got for Allen is a solid blue wooden bed. Blue seems to be Allen’s favorite color. Allen has to have everything in blue.
When Allen saw his new bed, he got excited. He screamed to the top of his lungs, “I have a big boy bed now!”
The smile on Allen’s face was priceless. We took a picture because it was a moment that was worth capturing forever. It will be a picture that will most certainly have to put into Allen’s scrap book. I am sure it will be a wonder for him to look back on this day when he is a grown man.

Jan Crying On the Steps

Jan was sitting out on the steps in the snowy cold of winter crying his eyes out. He was crying pretty badly, too. I stood there and said a prayer. Then, I calmly approached him.
”What is wrong, Jan,” I asked softly.
”My dog died today.”
”Really?” I asked.
”Yes, and I cannot bear it.”
”How long ago did this happen?”
”Just five minutes ago,” Jan said. “We were playing ball together, and then he dropped dead on the floor right in front of me.”
We sat and talked on the steps together for a while, until he calmed down. Then, I went into the house with him, gathered the dog up, and then we road to the vet together.
While the dog was at the vet, Jan and I went and looked at pet urns. We picked out a really nice pet urn for his dog.
It is going to be a hard week coming up. But together, it will be better.
